Two important European standards for the lift sector have now been published in the Official Journal of the European Union and as a result harmonised.
EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 were published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 27 January 2021. As a result, they are harmonised and any party applying them triggers a presumption of conformity to the effect that it meets the health protection and safety requirements of the Lift Directive 2014/33/EU.
The transition period for EN 81-20:2014 and EN 81-50:2014 was extended at the same time until 27 July 2022. This also emerged from the Official Journal, according to the VFA-Interlift e.V.
"Modification of the normative references of existing market authorisations (e.g. type approval test certificates) based on EN 81-20:2014 and EN 81-50:2014 are unnecessary due to the extended transition period and the unchanged technical contents of EN 81-20:2020 and EN 81-50:2020 (see too Blue Guide 4.1.2.6.) with the new reference to EN 81-20:2020 and EN 81-50:2020," the association pointed out.
New references would have to be made in the case of new or technically amended market authorisations.
