Gisela Bernstein to retire

News

Gisela Bernstein passed on the torch of the Bernstein AG to the third generation on 1 July – her children Achim and Nicole Bernstein.

On 1 February 1970, a young woman joined Bernstein AG as a clerical assistant and after more than 51 years, she is now leaving the company as Chairwoman of the Executive Board.

Gisela Bernstein is the daughter-in-law of the company founder Hans Bernstein and the wife of Hans-Joachim Bernstein, who for many years was the managing director and Chairman of the Executive Board. She began work at the company in 1970 as "clerical assistant for foreign customers". The goal was to develop new, European-wide business relationships for Bernstein. She took over management of the export department in 1988.

Remains a member of the Supervisory Board

Together with her staff, she markedly increased overall sales with the help of exports. The new subsidiaries established at the time of Hans-Joachim Bernstein in France, Austria, the United Kingdom (1985), Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, the USA (1985), China, Hungary (2005) and Switzerland (2006) also contributed to this.

Gisela Bernstein was decisively involved in their development. In addition, she took over the management of the BeNeLux distribution company in 2006.

In 2008, Gisela Bernstein was appointed to the Executive Board of the worldwide provider for industrial security and building technology, of which she became the chair from 2010. During this period, her husband Hans-Joachim Bernstein had to withdraw from management of the company on health grounds. She has managed the company together with her children since 2014. However, she remains a member of the Supervisory Board.
