With its Christmas campaign this year, Yaskawa Europe GmbH is supporting the international medical emergency aid organisation "Doctor without Borders" with a sum of EUR 15,000.
Birgit Schönharting, project staff member of "Doctor without Borders" in Germany, was presented with the cheque at a small festive event held at Yaskawa’s European headquarters in Eschborner on 11 December.
"This donation is intended as a signal at the end of a successful year," said Manfred Stern, CEO of Yaskawa Europe, speaking at the event. "As a technology corporation we have a particular sense of responsibility towards society."
With a donation of EUR 15,000, "Doctor without Borders" Can supply clean drinking water to 62,500 people in the crisis area of Bangladesh over a period of three months, for example. The sum covers the material required for treating and supplying the water such as chlorine, water tanks, pumps and taps.
"This donation will go towards helping people in need and saving lives in some 70 countries around the world", said Birgit Schönharting of "Doctor without Borders" at the cheque presentation.
The "Doctor without Borders" staff carry out more than ten million medical treatments per year. Last year, for example, they treated some 2.5 million malaria patients and more than 260,000 children suffering from malnutrition. In 1999, "Doctor without Borders" was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its services.
