In its View DoorSense solution View uses a technology that takes note, understands and as a result interacts with its environment and can learn on the basis of artificial intelligence (AI).

Light grids and light curtains for lifts represent an established technology for protecting passengers against accidents with doors. In many regions, the applicable lift standards describe their use and several of the basic models meet these standards. Depth sensors may soon replace light curtains and greatly improve the protection of users, lifts and transported goods.

Most light curtains for lifts are restricted to a two-dimensional coverage range. This means coverage is only possible if an object is between the lift doors. A three-dimensional monitoring range can also detect the presence of objects located in the loading area. This already permits an earlier signal to the lift doors upon the approach of an object, enhancing safety and reducing the risk of a collision with the doors.

Advantages for many installations

3D detectors offer advantages for many installations. However, they are especially important in very busy areas, for example when passengers are running to catch the lift, if there is a queue in front of the car or if passengers are accompanied by large objects, such as shopping trolleys.

In its View DoorSense solution View uses an innovative technology that takes note, understands and as a result interacts with its environment and can learn on the basis of artificial intelligence (AI).

In place of a light curtain, a depth camera is used whose depth and RGB sensors (imager) possess a wides angle lens. Consequently, not only a limited number of light beams are covered, but instead "stereo vision" for calculating depth and detecting objects and situations in their context.

Door control depending on the situation

The stereo vision is covered by a left imager and right imager as well as an infrared projector. The infrared projector projects static IR patterns to improve depth precision in scenes with lower texture.

The left and right imagers cover the scene in the defined safety zone and send raw picture data back to the video processor, which calculates depth values for each pixel in the picture by correlating points on the left to right image and via the change between one point on the left image and right image. The depth pixel values are processed to generate a depth frame. The subsequent depth frames ensure a depth video stream.

An algorithm detects and calculates defined objects and situations from the depth video stream and controls the doors depending on the situation. This makes it possible enhance passenger safety and greatly reduce the risk of accidents at lift doors. This has many positive effects such as greater lift availability, lower repair and breakdown costs and lower liability costs for lift owners.
