interlift: Premiere for WEG Automation Europe

News

WEG Automation Europe will present at the interlift his latest products in elevator automation. Interlift 2023 is the first elevator lift trade fair for WEG Automation Europe since the inception of the business unit.

The new drive manufacturing plant and competence centre was born from the acquisition of the motion control unit of Gefran in early 2023. The business unit combines WEG’s experience in drive systems with Italian excellence in inverter lift technology.

The spotlight of WEG's exhibit is the ADL500 elevator drive — a new technology that fuses innovation, efficiency and safety. Derived from Gefran's legacy and its predecessor, the ADL300 drive, the ADL500 is now an integral part of the WEG Automation Europe product line up.

This drive is available in three models, the ADL510, ADL530 and the ADL550, all of which will be shown at interlift. The ADL510 is best suited to asynchronous motors typical of low-rise buildings or modernisation in open and close loop, the ADL530 is suitable for both asynchronous and synchronous motors and features additional technology such as an on-board universal encoder interface and improved communication. The ADL550 is the most technologically advanced of the three options and is the most sophisticated elevator inverter from WEG.

"Extensive communication capabilities"

Among the highlights of the ADL550 is the integration of new safety features. Functionalities include several new brake management tools, such as safe brake test (SBT) to check the motor brakes effectively and safe brake control (SBC) with EBC500 accessory to replace electro-mechanical brakes control with electronics.

"Another important improvement of the ADL500 drive is its extensive communication capabilities," explained Karim Boudaoud, product manager at WEG Automation Europe. "The drive is seamless integrated through WiFi and Ethernet and can be monitored and configured via an intuitive app, available for laptops and mobile devices. At the event, we will also introduce the WEG Drives Remote Management System (RMS), a tool that facilitates remote monitoring of elevator drives from any location."

According to the company, WEG Drives RMS leans on "WEG’s growing expertise in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies", having launched other smart maintenance tools, including WEGscan and WEG Motion Fleet Management, in recent years.

Integrated control system

WEG Automation Europe's aims to provide comprehensive solutions is reinforced by the development of the ADL550-ICS — an integrated control system that creates a single environment between the inverter and control card. "This holistic approach ensures unparalleled functionality, reliability, and efficiency in elevator operations", stresses WEG.

"We will also have a panel demonstrating the regeneration capabilities between the ADL elevator drives and the AFE200 Active Front End unit," continued Boudaoud. "This flagship power supply unit is now part of the WEG Group Automation Portfolio".

WEG Automation Europe's presence at Interlift 2023 marks the organisation’s official launch into the elevator automation sector, following the merge of the inverter heritage from Gefran merging with drive system experience from WEG.
