Gateway, an Internet of Things-technology (IoT) applied to glass mirrors in lift cars (patented in Italy – European patent pending), transforms common lift car mirrors into interactive touch-screen displays.
Gateway has many different purposes:
• Touch-screen interactive display;
• Digital signage and communication;
• Emergency connection to 24-hour servicing (through an additional micro camera);
• Maintenance support (direct video/audio connection between HQ and maintenance personnel on site).
A video shows the use of GatewayThe system is extremely light and thin, with no impact on lift car weight and space. Gateway is tailor-made adaptable both for new cars and modernisation.
Gateway provides architects and designers a new opportunity to create elegant and luxury lift cars. It also allows the lift owner to sell advertising, with a quick pay-back for his investment.
Frame: Gateway has a frame made of special aluminium profiles that support the whole structure, its weight and gives the fixing point to the wall of the car:
• negligible impact on rated load;
• negligible impact on lift car area.
Glass: The mirror glass is tempered according to EN12150 and ANSI Z97.1. The tensile strength is 150N/mm2. The reflective treatment providing a mirror-like effect when the screen is dark (or turned off). It is transparent when switched on.
Adaptable design: It is possible to customize the mirror and the finishes (including mirror serigraphy), according to customer’s requirements. Displays dimensions & orientation:
• standard options: 42", 49" & 55" (other options available);
• horizontal or vertical.
Touch-screen technology: As an optional Gateway becomes a full touch-screen video providing interaction between the user and the outside world (via the web). This feature allows maintenance operators to read operational parameter directly on site and open the door to many other options and services from/to the lift car.
The Gateway system has multiple possibilities of connection with the digital world. Entry level performs a basic software with a certain number of templates that is possible to customize through a remote PC, connected to the same network.
Pro level provides the further opportunity to create new contents lay-out and connection to RSS feed. The system can manage a group of displays logged on the same network, from a single PC.
Advanced level: All the features of the Pro Level plus the possibility to manage a network of devices connected to different local remote networks, all manged from a central office.
Communication and digital signage: Gateway becomes a new channel of communication towards users, showing information, photos, videos, web pages, advertising (contents are managed remotely in real time): e.g. customised information focused on the needs of user and/or lift owner.
Emergency mode: In the event of an alarm, (through the application of an invisible micro web-cam). Gateway improves the safety of users, becoming a new bi-directional audio/visual communication channel between the passenger and the 24-hour rescue service.
Maintenance support: Through the touch-screen option, Gateway provides a new tool to support the maintenance personnel on site, connecting the lift car to a remote computer. Maintenance personnel can then access files (manuals & instructions) to facilitate and speed up operations on the lift system. This option also provides a further possibility to better manage programmed and predictive maintenance service, displaying information/tools (graphics, video recording, working parameters, etc.) to the operator on site.
Conclusions: Gateway applies IoT technology to car mirrors, transforming them into new, powerful, revolutionary devices.
