From service container with the cargo bike to the lift
Schindler Germany has set up its first “Flexpoint” in cooperation with the DB Smart City Initiative in front of the Berlin Gesundbrunnen station. From here, the company’s lift technicians set off with cargo bikes to their service deployments.
In the future, over 100 lifts will be maintained and repaired from the Flexpoint in an environmentally and traffic-friendly manner. The combination of Flexpoint and cargo bikes (so-called light electronic vehicles, LEVs) is intended to cut the CO2 emissions of the Schindler service fleet and make a contribution to less traffic, less space used, less noise and fewer occupied parking spaces.
The spare parts needed are available in the LEV directly in front of the deployment location. This eliminated long journeys, the deployment was completed faster and the lifts and escalators were once again in operation sooner, explained Schindler.
Pilot project in Berlin
The technicians set off on their jobs directly from the Flexpoint. They order the spare parts and consumables to their service container and collect them there. Packaging material and waste is likewise disposed right on the spot. The metal boxes fitted with photovoltaic panels serve as garages and charging stations for the LEVs at the end of the working day.
The Flexpoint is intended to be a pilot project. Another location is to open in summer 2024 at Charlottenburg rapid transit station. Schindler and Deutsche Bahn, which is supporting the project as part of its Smart City Initiative, hope to gather experience with the Flexpoints and test their functionality.
