First “notified body” for Machine Directive
TÜV Süd has been recognised and listed as the worldwide first notified body on the European NANDO website for the new Machine Regulation.
April 2018
EN 115-1 “Safety of escalators and moving walks – Part 1: Design and Installation” was revised by the responsible European working group and published by CEN in July 2017 in the English reference edition.
In Germany, DIN EN 115-1 with the publication date January 2018 is already available. Due to changes in the state of the art, the standard has been modified to improve the safety level. Consequently, this document underwent comprehensive redrafting.
This includes, for example:
• an expansion of the service brake by an electric brake device
• integration of fire protection requirements
• introduction of a revision control, which is activated by using both hands
• requirements for fixed installations in the storage area
In addition, important health and safety requirements of the relevant EU directives were integrated and the references to other standards in the document were improved.
In addition, important health and safety requirements of the relevant EU directives were integrated and the references to other standards in the document were improved. The technical report TR 115-3:2017 “Safety of escalators and moving walks – Part 3: Correlation between EN 115-1:2008+A1:2010 and EN 115-1:2017” is worthy of mention.
This paper is only available in English and is a comparison of EN 115-1:2008+A1:2010 with EN 115-1:2017 with the corresponding changes. As a result of the revision of EN 115-1, adjustment of EN 115-2:2010 “Safety of escalators and moving walks - Part 2: Rules for the improvement of safety of existing escalators and moving walks” is necessary.
A first draft is expected from the working group at the end of 2018. A new standard, which is about to be edited, relates to new escalators in existing buildings – here, a new draft is not expected before the end of 2019. So far, nothing is known relating to the contents and precise area of application.
Apart from the European standards, national guidelines are being revised on escalators and moving walks are also being revised. The trade association documents BGI 5069-1 “Safe operation” and BGI 5069-2 “Assembly, disassembly and maintenance” familiar to the industry have also been adjusted to the state of the art in the course of the renumbering of the information documents.
After the editing, the documents will then be published as:
• DGUV Information 208-028 Escalators and moving walks; Part 1: Safe operation
• DGUV Information 208-029 Escalators and moving walks; Part 2: Assembly, disassembly and maintenance.
