Progress in protection against vandalism
Meiller’s vandal-proof doors underwent recertification. The current certification meets to the requirements of EN 81-71 Category 2 and of the Meiller Scooter Guard system.
Lift doors in public buildings are exposed to enormous daily stresses. Unfortunately, vandalism damage occurs time and again, which considerably impairs the safety and functionality of the lifts. The constant use and high traffic frequency mechanically burden the doors additionally.
To adequately meet these challenges, Meiller developed vandal-proof doors according to EN 81-71 Category 2. The tests forming part of the certification were intended to ensure that these doors also work reliably under extreme conditions and meet the high safety requirements.

A central element of this further development is its combination with the Meiller ScooterGuard system, which was especially developed to protect against accidents with electric scooters. The increasing use of scooters has demonstrated that incorrect operation can result in serious accidents. The most frequent cause is riding through closed landing doors, followed by a fall down the shaft.
Technical changes and improvements
The latest certification is associated with additional technical changes designed to further enhance the sturdiness and functionality of the doors.
• Special emergency unlocking: The shaft doors are fitted with a standard-compliant emergency unlocking mechanism of special design. This is protectively blocked by an electromagnetically-actuated bolt against wanton abuse and damage and as a result guarantees fast evacuation in an emergency.
• TM1-V skate series: The special anti-vandalism design of the TM1-V skate series minimises the probability of malfunctions due to external influences.
• Protection against interference sources: As potential targets for damage, the rope and drive belts have been given better protection and strategically relocated to enhance operating safety.
• New door models: The product range now includes singe-section, centrally-opening doors, such as the STS/K23 and the TGA Compact and -SUPRA series. An option for use in firefighting lifts according to EN 81-72 has also been certified.
• MGT 99.20 glass frame door leaves: The purpose of the MGT 99.20 glass frame door leaves , available in a fireproof version according to EN 81-58 E90, is to offer a combination of high safety and aesthetic design They correspond to EN 81-71 Category 2 according to the requirements of the pendulum impact test.
• Meiller CAT2: The Meiller CAT2 design features vandalism-proof landing and car doors, which are completely certified according to EN 81-71 Category 1 as well as Category 2 and are simultaneously delivered as standard with the Meiller ScooterGuard and EBA (EBA – Eisenbahnbundesamt - German Federal Railway Authority) equipment.
• Predictive door diagnostics: The Meiller MiDrive door drive with integrated predictive door diagnostics and –monitoring via CAN bus is available for all anti-vandalism car doors. This option should minimise downtimes and enhance operational safety.
Barrier-free stations: The elevator doors from Meiller will also help to further improve accessibility at Deutsche Bahn stations. The products from the Munich-based component manufacturer are being used in the major Stuttgart 21 project, among others. Area of use
The anti-vandalism doors are deployed in various use areas where they have to meet high demands on resistance, security and availability. These include very busy railway stations, underground stations and prestigious public buildings.

Meiller CAT2: Meiller CAT2 vandalism-proof doors comply with EN 81-71, Categories 1 and 2 and are in general supplied in ScooterGuard and EBA design.
Meiller CAT2 vandalism-proof doors are available in two versions:
• pendulum-impact tested according to EN 81-71 Category 2 incl. ScooterGuard
• pendulum-impact tested and complete including all additional measures according to EN 81-72, Category 2
Both categories also meet the requirements of the Meiller ScooterGuard regulation and of the German Federal Railways Authority (EBA). The EBA is the supervisory and approval authority responsible for railway infrastructure companies in Germany.
It monitors over 38,000 km of railway lines and sets high demands on the design of lift components, especially regarding vandalism protection.
The Meiller Rail-Bahn lift doors in CAT2 design were especially developed for these requirements.
