Otis Germany has won the order from Berchtesgaden Bergbahn AG to supply all of the lifts and escalators for the renewal of the Jenner cable car at Königssee in the Berchtesgaden region.
The order covers two Gen2 Life and four Gen2 Stream lifts and two model 508 NCE escalators. The systems are to be installed and put into operation by mid-2018 in the valley, midway and mountain stations at approximately 630, 1,200 and 1,800 m.
Otis has developed a regenerative drive in the form of the ReGen drive, which feeds energy back into the lift system or the internal building grid instead of releasing it unused as heat to the environment. The Gen2 technology is intended to save up to 75 percent drive energy during normal operation compared to non-regenerative systems.
Steel core reinforced polyurethane (PU) belts have at least twice the service life compared to conventional steel suspension cables and do not need any lubrication. They are monitored remotely by the patented pulse system, which is intended to permit a maximum in safety and the full exploitation of the service life.
The Gen2 Stream lift model without machine-room used here should be suitable for buildings with especially high traffic volume, "Ideal for the Jenner cable car, which is intended to transport twice as many passengers as previously to its mountain," Otis explained.
